Besides the built-in Agent, Ask, and Plan, the agent picker can list two more kinds of agents:
- Cloud agents: agents shared in your organization or team, with their own instructions and model.
- Repository agents: agents defined in files inside the selected repository. Anyone who works on the repository can use them, and they change with the code. Use them when a task needs the same specialized instructions every time, such as a code reviewer, a migration helper, or a documentation writer.
Use cases
- Use your team’s shared code reviewer on every pull request.
- Keep a migration or upgrade helper next to the code it upgrades.
- Give new team members agents that already know the project’s rules.
- Use a documentation agent that follows your style guide.
Pick a cloud or repository agent
- Pick a repository and branch, or an environment, so repository agents can load.
- Select the agent picker below the prompt box.
- Optional: type in Search agents… to filter the list.
- Select an agent under Cloud agents or Repository agents. Each group appears only when it has agents. Cloud agents show the model they use below the name. Repository agents show the repository or the file path. Hover over the picker to see the full name of the selected agent. You can switch between built-in, cloud, and repository agents for any message in a thread.
Cloud agents
Cloud agents are shared with you by your organization or team. Each one has a name, instructions, and a model. They are listed under Cloud agents in the picker. You can’t create cloud agents in the Bold Create web app. Ask your organization admin which cloud agents are available.
Repository agents
A repository agent is a file in your repository that gives the agent a name and instructions. Bold Create finds these files in the branch you picked and lists them under Repository agents. If you picked an environment, it lists the agents from every repository in the environment.
Where to put agent files
Bold Create looks for agent files in these folders at the root of the repository:
- .boldcreate/agents/
- .github/agents/
- .agents/
- .agent/agents/ The files can be Markdown (.md) or YAML (.yaml, .yml). For example, .boldcreate/agents/reviewer.agent.md or .github/agents/docs-writer.md.
Add a repository agent
- In your repository, create a file such as .boldcreate/agents/reviewer.agent.md with the content above.
- Commit and push the file to the branch you use with Bold Create.
- In Bold Create, start a new thread on that branch.
- Select the agent picker. Your agent appears under Repository agents.
Best practices
- Keep repository agents in the repository: they are reviewed, versioned, and shared like any other code.
- Write instructions as rules: short bullets are easier for the agent to follow than long paragraphs.
- Point to files: reference checklists and style guides in the repository instead of copying them.
- Use built-in agents for one-off tasks: create a custom agent only for instructions you reuse. For instructions that should apply to every agent and every run, add an AGENTS.md file at the root of the repository instead. See Agent.
Troubleshooting
- No repository agents found: the file is not in one of the supported folders, has an unsupported extension, or is not on the branch you picked. Push the file and start a new thread.
- Repository agents could not be loaded. Select a cloud agent or try again.: Bold Create could not read the repository. Try again, or pick another agent.
- The selected repository agent is no longer available. Select another agent.: the agent file was removed or renamed. Pick another agent.
