Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about using BoldCreate threads, files, usage, and accounts.

This page answers common questions about Bold Create. For step-by-step fixes, see the other pages in the Troubleshoot section.

Getting started

What do I need to start my first task?

An account, a connected Git provider (GitHub, GitLab, or Gitea), and access to a repository. You don’t need an environment for your first task. See Quick Start.

Which Git providers does Bold Create support?

GitHub, GitLab, and self-hosted Gitea. See Integrations overview.

Threads and runs

Can I change the repository or branch of a thread?

No. The repository, branch, and environment are set when the thread starts. To work on a different repository or branch, start a new thread with New task.

Can I work on several repositories in one thread?

Yes. When you start a task, pick up to 10 repositories, or use an environment that includes them. See Work across multiple repositories.

Can I send a message while the agent is working?

Yes. Your message is queued and sent when the current run ends. You can queue up to 5 messages. To stop the agent, select Stop.

What is the difference between Try Again and Retry?

Try Again appears below an error message when the failed run can be tried again. It continues the failed run, with the model that is selected now. Retry appears on the last response and sends your last message to the agent again. See Run stopped or shows Error.

Can I rename or pin a thread?

Yes. Open the thread’s menu in the sidebar and select Rename, Pin, or Archive. Bold Create first names the thread from your prompt, then replaces it with a short generated title.

Can I undo deleting a thread?

No. You are asked to confirm, and deleting can’t be undone. For a cloud thread, the run stops and its history, workspace, and attachments are deleted. Branches and pull requests already pushed to your Git provider stay there. See Threads.

Agents and models

Do Ask and Plan change my code?

No. Ask answers questions and Plan writes a plan, without changing files. Only Agent edits files, runs commands, and opens pull requests. See Ask and Plan.

Can I switch agents or models in the middle of a thread?

Yes. Change the agent or model below the prompt box before any message, including follow-ups. The agent keeps the context of the thread.

Why is my image struck through in the composer?

The selected model can’t see images. The file is still sent, and the agent can open it from the workspace, but the model can’t view it. Pick a model that supports images if you want the model to see it. See Attachment not accepted.

Branches and pull requests

Does the agent commit to my branch?

No. The agent creates its own working branch from the branch you pick. Its name starts with bc/. Your branch changes only when you merge the pull request. See Pull requests.

Does the agent open a pull request automatically?

No. The agent opens a pull request only when you ask, for example Commit the changes and open a pull request against main.

Can I edit the pull request title or description in Bold Create?

Yes. When you select Create pull request in the Changes tab, you can enter a title and a description. If you leave them empty, they are written for you. You can also tell the agent what to include before it opens the pull request, ask it to update the pull request, or edit it in your Git provider.

Does deleting a thread delete the agent’s branch or pull request?

Branches and pull requests already pushed to your Git provider stay there. Delete them in your Git provider if you don’t need them.

Environments

Why can’t I pick my environment in the composer?

Only environments with the Ready status are listed, and only those you created or that are shared with you. See Repository or branch not listed.

Can I store secrets in environment variables?

Use secrets, not variables. Variables are plain text. Anyone who can open the environment can read them, and so can the agent. Secrets are encrypted and can’t be read back after you save them. See Create an environment.

Why can’t I edit an environment my teammate created?

It depends on the environment’s scope:

  • Private: only its creator can change it.
  • Team: its creator or a lead of one of its teams can change it.
  • Organization: its creator or an organization admin can change it.

Only these people can edit, build again, or delete it. You can still use it in tasks and view its details and latest build. See Manage environments.

Integrations

Do I need to create a token for GitHub or GitLab?

No. You sign in to the provider in your browser and approve access. Only Gitea needs a personal access token. See Connect Gitea.

What happens when my token expires?

Bold Create can’t reach your repositories until you reconnect. Threads may stop with an error that asks you to reconnect the integration. See Integration token expired or revoked.

Does disconnecting an integration remove Bold Create from my Git provider?

No. Disconnecting removes the connection from Bold Create only. Revoke the authorization or delete the token in your Git provider as well, if you no longer need it.

Attachments

How many files can I attach to a message?

Up to 10 files per message, each up to 4 MB. See Attachment not accepted.

Can I attach a PDF or Word document?

Yes. PDF, ZIP, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files are accepted, along with images, text, and code. Videos, audio files, other archives, and executables are not.

Usage and account

Where can I see my credits and usage?

Open the profile menu and select Dashboard. See Check usage and credits.

Why does my run say my organization has too many active runs?

Your organization, or you personally, have reached the number of runs that can be active at once. By default that is 20 for an organization and 5 for each person. Runs waiting for your approval or paused don’t count. Wait for a run to finish, or stop one you don’t need, then try again. See Run stopped or shows Error.
